Did you know?

Magnums Accommodation has been purpose-built to keep in line with our Eco ethos since the start. When building, we maximised natural ventilation to bathrooms and toilets via breezeways and positioned buildings to avoid heat loads from the western sun. Roof rainwater is also diverted into open rubble surface drains, that allow the water to soak the garden beds naturally.

During construction, Magnums used insulation materials in walls and roof to maximise energy efficiency. Ceilings and verandahs were constructed to let as much natural light in as possible. We also used renewable materials such as timber and we chose environmentally sensitive paint. Magnums walkways are designed to minimise disturbance to trees and vegetation within the property.

Our Ecolab cleaning station is here!

Our Ecolab cleaning station is here!

This new partnership with Ecolab and the team at Rewards Cannonvale is an important step in us becoming more sustainable.
The Ecolab cleaning system was installed in our Housekeeping headquarters recently and the team received some great training from Sandra and Peter from Ecolab.
What does the Ecolab system mean for Magnums:
  • Plastic waste reduction via packaging innovation
  • Water and energy reduction via innovative chemistry
  •  Low impact, plant derived chemistry that works!
  •  One pass wash results resulting in lower water and energy use
Ecolab will be helping us conserve water, energy and reduce our waste usage as well. A Win-Win!
Our Recycling program

Our Recycling program

Magnums is committed to going GREEN (er)

We are proud to now offer a full recycling program across the entire resort. Our bins are situated in all our common areas as well as in the shared kitchen and all ensuite cabins. Our staff are also on board, with recycling happening in all our departments!

We are committed to continue to find innovative ideas to lower our carbon footprint and introducing a recycling program was a no brainer.

We all know the saying: “Great things are done in a series of small things brought together”, that’s why we want our guests to jump on board this environmental journey with us and help shape a greener Whitsunday Region.

Our energy

Our energy

In 2018, Magnums made the decision to invest in solar energy. Solar panels were installed around the resort. This means 29% of our energy needs is provided by our solar panels. Amazing! This is an investment Magnums is proud of. Magnums is also very conscious of how much electricity our air conditioners are producing. Living in North Queensland means that air conditioning is a necessity during the summer months. However, we have all our air conditioners set on timers, according to each season and they get checked regularly by registered electricians.

Our gardens

Our gardens

Magnums is set within lush, tropical gardens. Travelers always talk about feeling like being in a tropical forest, but still right in the middle of Airlie Beach.

Over the years, our team has carefully chosen native, hardy and drought tolerant plants, bushes and trees, ensuring they look healthy and green all year round, with minimal maintenance or water. The gardens at Magnums also rely on an elaborate electronic watering system, which helps minimize water waste. For example, gardens beds are watered during the evenings, to avoid evaporation.

More than 80% of our green waste is recycled. We chip it, and reuse it to mulch our garden beds!

ECO toiletries

ECO toiletries

We now offer complimentary toiletries in our ensuite cabins. The Choyer Earth range is beautifully scented with lemon myrtle, made from a certified organic base and blended with a biodegradable liquid formula. The PET bottles are also made from Eco Pure, making them the perfect choice to continue our Eco journey towards less wastage.

Magnums Eco Bags

Magnums Eco Bags

Another way Magnums is working towards less waste is by providing guests with our Magnums eco-friendly bags, available for purchase from the Reception.

Our eco-friendly bags are strong and big enough to carry everything while travelling.

Water Refilling station

To reduce the amount of plastic bottles purchased, Magnums has installed a water refilling station for all our guests to use. It is available at Reception!

Our staff are doing it too!

Our staff are also working towards a greener future! All our departments now have recycling facilities. We have also started a battery recycling program and our team members were also given a reusable coffee mug and water bottle to minimise plastic wastage.

Innovative ideas

Innovative ideas

Once a year, our team at Magnums are asked to submit ideas that would improve our guests experience when staying with us, while continuing our effort to leave minimal impact on our environment. A few years ago, we set up our herb garden, which continues to provide fresh herbs to our guests when they are using our kitchen facilities.

Help us by hanging your towels!

Help us by hanging your towels!

As we are proudly ECO certified for Nature Tourism with Ecotourism Australia, we encourage all our guests to air their towels daily. All cabins have a clothes line outside. Every day in hotels across the world, millions of litres of water are used to wash towels that have only been used once. Help us conserve water by hanging your towels and re-using them.

Pledges and special events

In 2022, Magnums participated in a range of events related to our eco sustainability.

We have big plans for 2023, watch this space!

World Environment Day 2022

In 2022, Magnums Nature Action pledge was to remove single-use plastic toiletries and to source some that are biodegradable. Well… we are thrilled to announce that we have achieved our goal. All our ensuite cabins now have an ECO range of toiletries.

Magnums also participated in Earth Hour and we also have installed several Climate Change signs throughout the resort.

We believe that all these small things make a HUGE difference.

Do you have any tips on how Magnums can be even greener? Please don’t hesitate to give us your feedback on how we can better ourselves!
