About us
Our story
In the Whitsundays, for more than 34 years!
The property was originally the “Whitsunday Village Resort”, established and trading from 1970 to 1988. The journey had begun. This little tropical paradise called Whitsunday Village, sought by newly-wed and families was about to become Magnums Backpackers, the original Whitsunday Backpackers. In 1999, further expansion and redevelopment produced a purpose-built, eco sustainable property, nestled within a magnificent rainforest setting. Magnums was still accommodating International backpackers at this stage.
Fast-forward to 2019, and the COVID-19 pandemic, Magnums “pivoted” to what we are now, a 3.5 star unique accommodation, with a wide range of private and affordable accommodation, suited to couples. Magnums Unique Accommodation now accommodates 204 guests, in a competitive range of accommodation options, all with access to our fully renovated recreational and kitchen facilities.
Our Vision Statement
“A future of growth and sustainability both financially and ecologically, a future where by being wholly inclusive, we play our part in creating a better world”.
Our Mission Statement
“Life is a journey, it is our responsibility to ensure that this journey is improved for all who work and visit us at Magnums Unique Accommodation Airlie Beach”.
The Whitsundays
How lucky are we to call this magnificent region home.
Airlie Beach and the Whitsundays are known as the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef. Most tours to Whitehaven Beach and the Great Barrier Reef leave from Airlie Beach, either from Coral Sea Marina, Port of Airlie or Shute Harbour Terminal. As Magnums is located right in the heart of Airlie Beach, we are close to most tour departures. Don't forget, our team is available daily from 8am to 8pm to book any tours in the region, or to answer any of your questions regarding our beautiful region.
Did you know? "The Whitsunday Islands were formed when sea levels rose, creating "drowned" mountains that now protrude from the Coral Sea with their distinctive emerald-green vegetation and rocky outcrops".

We have the reef, ancient rainforests, coral fringes, cane fields, untouched mountains and ranges, small little quirky towns, 74 islands to explore and lots in between as well! There is so much to do in the Whitsundays; fishing, snorkelling, diving, sailing, swimming, camping, walking, biking.... there is truly something for everyone.
On your way to our beautiful town, don't forget to stop at our regional Visitor Information Centres. Whether you are stopping in Mackay, Bowen or Proserpine centres, all teams there have a wealth of knowledge about our region and can help plan the perfect holiday.
If you are close to us in Proserpine, the team at the Whitsundays Visitor Information Centre is here to help. A bit more about the Great Barrier Reef...
"The World Heritage-listed Great Barrier Reef is one of the seven natural wonders of the world and the largest living structure. It is visible from outer space and stretches over 2,000km in length along the Queensland Coast of Australia".
